I say the difference is even larger than the report claims simply because it takes fewer Linux (or Mac OS X) machines to do the same work as Windows. Windows is often deployed one application per machine or even multiple machines per application. Data centers and cubicles are loaded with multiple redundant Windows machines that could be turned off and kept for spares or sold if a widespread migration from Windows to Linux or Mac OS X starts.

If the world rapidly moves from Windows to Linux servers and Mac OS X desktops & notebooks HP & Dell sales might stall to a crawl, reducing e-waste substantially.
